Penpal guideline
Guidelines to writing a Pen Pal Letter:
Remember to be friendly and polite
Paragraph 1
Paragraph 2: Interests
Paragraph 3: School
Paragraph 4: Deep Water Video Reaction
Remember to be friendly and polite
Paragraph 1
- Use the first sentence of your letter to indicate who you are. "Hello. my name is....."
- Start your letter with your nickname or first name, age, and gender
- Write about where do you live and what it looks like
- Describe your family. "I have 2 brothers and one sister. I am the second youngest child in my family."
Paragraph 2: Interests
- Write the entire second paragraph to your new pen pal about your interests and hobbies. Be as specific as possible. Indicate which genre of books or movies you enjoy, what hobbies you pursue, and all the foreign countries you have explored. Include the following:
- What do you like to do?
- Do you have pets?
- What is your favorite color, food, music, etc. Let your pen pal know your hobbies and interests. This opens the floodgates to communication and lets them see if you have similar interests.
- Ask questions of the other person so he or she can respond.
Paragraph 3: School
- What do you like to study best in school? Be specific. Don't say you like to read. Tell them what you like to read. Say something like, "I read a lot of adventure novels and my favorite ones are the Hardy Boys".
- Once again, ask questions of the other person so he or she can respond.
Paragraph 4: Deep Water Video Reaction
- What did you find interesting or surprising from the Deep Water video?
- Make sure you close your letter with something friendly that promotes friendship. For example, "Your New Friend", "Cheery Good-byes", "Yours" or "Cheers". Do not sign your letter "Love". This person doesn't know you, you do not know them and love is not appropriate. You will also scare them off using that word.
